My Heart Detects You

How often my eyes have caught glimpses of you,

even with my nearsightedness,

knowing from afar that it was you there.

Do my eyes intentionally see you,

or does my heart know?

Does my heart have a radar that

sends pulses of waves to spot where you are?

If so, when my heart detects you,

the butterflies suddenly come alive, grappling within me.

This may be an exaggeration, but it’s true.

Your presence breathes life into my mortality

and awakens every one of my biomolecular components from its sleep.

I am still striving, making every effort to forget you.

Perhaps it is my heart that finds this struggle exceedingly arduous.
